Power company rolled down my street today and took out a clump of my neighbor's sweetgum trees. He wanted them gone, so at least he didn't get the same shock as many of the other neighbors. There are a few short trunk sections about 8-10" diameter. Send me a PM and I'll respond with my address...
I mentioned in another thread I was about to have the tree cut. I did. They cut it in firewood size lengths. It is about 1' in diameter, maybe a little more. If anyone wants some, let me know. I will probably have to haul it somewhere to get rid of it, so I would deliver somewhat nearby...
I have a bunch of sweetgum pieces I had split out with wedges and froe to make spindle blanks that had anchor seal on the ends and had been in the attic for several months. I had zero loss from checking, but twist and distortion rendered some pieces less than desirable as spindle blanks. I was...
This is a SweetGum Open Form I rough-turned in August and final turned in Febuary.

I posted the other day about having too much poplar and a major reason was picking up what I thought were gum rounds that looked and smelled like poplar when I cut into them. I had expected the gum heartwood to be dark. Anyway, after a couple of days of exposure, I am beginning to think it is...
I'm cutting down about 10 fair size sweetgum trees in my yard. a friend has his woodmizer at my house and plan on sawing some large pines so I figured instead of using the clear pine for the floor of my shop I could use the sweetgum instead. My question is can I use the sweetgum if I T&G it and...
A few months ago, FrepP had a sweetgum felled and offered it to anyone who wanted some. ScottM got some for him and also some for me (thanks Scott). I roughed turned a couple of bowls in early March and did the finish turning a few days ago on one of them. I put 1 coat of BLO on this one and...
I have a couple of nice sweetgum logs that I will be milling soon, but I am not sure what I want to make from them. Do any of you use sweetgum, and if so, what for. Does anyone need anything particular before I saw it up..
Thanks, Ivey
Saw this on craigslist. Says it is in Raleigh/Garner area. I emailed him asking for the address and any other info. I don't have the equipment or I get some to store up.

Have you ever used Sweetgum wood in woodworking?
I have a bunch of (what I believe to be) Sweetgum trees on my property, and there are many around this area (and probably elsewhere). I've heard it looks like (or can look like) Walnut with the heartwood.
I have half-dead Sweetgum I'd like to...
I have a backdoor neighbor who is having a sweetgum taken down. This tree apparently has been dying for many years. If you looked low on the trunk it looks pretty good, but about half way up you started seeing the dead branches. This tree was about three stories tall.
I talked to the tree...
