Hello from Santa Clara, California, We are still here...
My name is Elizabeth D., daughter of Mr. Jim D. of The Belsaw Company.
I thank you for allowing me to be here on NC Woodworker.net - Platform/Forum -
and with that said, I don't want to ramble on with what I have been through.
Trying to...
Does anyone have any experience or information about sharpening jointer knives? I replaced the knives on my Powermatic 60B 8" jointer and would like to sharpen the old set to have in reserve. I have a machinist friend who will grind them, but I'm not sure if there is only one angle involved. It...
My jointer finally need to have the blades sharpened so I did that but I'm not getting the blades back in as accurately as I would like. Does anyone have any experience with the Jointer Pal? I've got a mag base and dial indicator that I can use but I'm struggling holding the blade in place...
I rarely use softer woods with what I do. A lot of hard maple, padauk, purple heart... It seems as though my jointer blades dull quicker than they should... maybe cause of the hardwoods. Would I benefit from using Carbide tipped knives? Anyone have experience with these? I have a 6" jet...
About 10 Years ago I bought the above planer. Aside from the two sets of blades that came with the machine, I purchased two more sets. Well after many years and many sharpenings, I find that the JACK screw will no longer reach the bottom of the blade. Question?? Are there longer JACK screws or...
I recently acquired a PM 50 6" jointer, in very used condition. I have aligned the tables (as much as I could) and set the fence to 90 degrees. Now it is time to turn attention to the knives. I have a manual which offers some help, but the section on blade replacement leaves a lot to the...
Hey Gang,
I made this video tutorial about 3 months ago and thought I'd share it here. The video demonstrates a jig that is very useful for sharpening jointer/planer knives. I'd be very interested in hearing any feedback. If you get a chance check out my cool site. :gar-La;

Need help guys, I have to replace my knives on my jointer for the first time. I understand that Model JT360 is 37-658 replacement. They run anywhere from $60 to $89. I purchased the jointer at Lowes 12/05 and have noticed over the years that replacement knives ran about $40. I just want to...
I need to buy some spare planer knives for my new planer. Unfortunately, it's not a very common size (15.25" x 11/16" x 1/8").
I did find the right size HSS knives at a good price at Holbren - but 3" too long (i.e. 18") knives.
Does anyone see a problem with shortening the knives by scoring...
Hi,
It's way past time to sharpen my jointer (Delta 8") and planer (dewalt 12.5") knives. Can anyone recommend a good shop locally? I'd also love to get my forrest sawblade sharpened but I'm willing to ship that if necessary.
Mark
Hi Y'all, I would be interested in how you all sharpen your planer and joiner knives? What tools and or jigs do you use? I can not find anyone locally to do a good job of sharpening these and would like to be able to do it myself. Thanks. Steve
I've got a few sets of planer and jointer knives that need some work. Can anyone recommend someone in or near the Durham area that provides sharpening services? Even better if they do circular saw blades as well.
Thanks,
Travis
I have an old delta 37-220 (6" jointer) that apparently takes 6 1/8x 19/32 x 3/32 knives.
I ended up ordering the wrong size: 6 1/8 x 5/8 x 1/8.
So it is 1/32 too tall and 1/32 too thick. It didn't look too crazy so I installed them anyway. I ended up having to grind down my wrench to be able...
Has any one ever tried the Freud 6" jointer knives on a Delta jointer? Are they any good? Amazon.com has a 3 pack for 17.98. That's 3 sets for my jointer for less than the price of 1 Delta .
I have a small Delta benchtop jointer and it was time to change the knives. Unfortunately, one of the allen bolts is stripped. I have tried multiple allen wrenches with no luck.
Would appreciate your thoughts/experience on the best method for releasing the bolt.
Thanks,
-mike
There has been a lot of discussion about the availability (or the unavailability) of replacement knives for the Ridgid TP1300 and the newer Ridgid R4330. Especially on the Ridgid forum. This dilemma has kept some people from buying these lunchbox planers. I was in the Home Depot in Hickory...
