Applied GF Neutral/Condition then antique cherry. Followed with their sanding sealer and a light coat of Glaze effects burnt umber to get this look. I am trying to match the blind samples below. I'm good on the color but I think I subdued the grain more than I wanted too... I'm thinking of adding an antiqued look by appling a black glaze and removing most of it - which should bring some of the grain back out and emphasize shadows a bit. When I'm done with this prototyping, I'll use clearer peices to build the actual wainscot for the nook. I know I'm going through a lot of trouble to make pine look like something it isn't, but I want to use the salvaged wood and meet my wife's expectations as well... BTW - these are all GF's waterborne finishes. Stain applied by hand, rest by HVLP.
