We had an old patio table base that used to be for those glass topped tables with the umbrellas. of course the wind caught the umbrella in a storm and flipped the entire thing over smashing the glass. Jade (my wife), wanted me to throw a chunk of plywood on it and call it good.
I have never been one to accept that kind workmanship. If I am going to undertake any project, I will do it to the best of my ability. Of course that isn't always saying a whole lot...
Anyways, this is what I came up with and presented it to her on Mothers Day this year. I think I might have exceeded her expectations, as she wont let it go off of the porch! She enjoys sitting out at it most evenings in pleasant weather.
OH! I almost forgot... the top is made of cedar, and the pieces are joined using pocket screws. I used Cabot's timber oil to finish it.
