Is this Maple Tree Curly or Quilted ?

I have this maple tree on my property that whenever we decide to build will need to be removed. I’m wondering if these are just knots from old branches or if this is clear evidence of curling or quilting. I do not wish to spend money getting this tree milled up and dried if it’s just knots.

What say you (if you know for sure) ?

No way to know till you slice into it.

Looks like burls though. Definitely need to saw it up

Agreed. There's going to be a lot of figure there. Knots will look different on the surface.

Had a log a few years ago that had small Burls from one end to the other.
Because the interesting grain did not extent very deep into the log I turned the entire log into natural edge pieces thus preserving more of the grain.

Did the small burls yield any figure on inner side of the burls ?

The figure ran from 2” to 4” below the bark.

If I were processing pieces of that log for woodturning, here's how I would do it.
(Yeah, crappy drawing, but you get the idea)
two examples below of turned in top form that would show off the burl.
