Yup, New Planer planes!!!

I got the new 15" Delta planer pretty much cleaned up (gooey oil vs cosmoline) and put together (I used my I-beam hoist again to lift it onto the stand.

) I still have to do a little fine alignment of the infeed/outfeed roller tables but a test cut seemed to go ok. I still need to mount the step caster to complete one of my homemade mobile bases, but I need to get a piece of square steel tube first. I will be adding a Wixey digital thickness gage also. I really need to make or buy a DC connection because this thing really spits out the shavings!!!!

I have one concern/question- when I ran a test piece of pine through the jointer the serrated feed roller put marks in the board. This is not a problem when taking off material, but I am concerned if I run a piece that is at, or close to, final thickness I'll get surface marks. Anyone else notice this on 15" or wider planers?

This sucker is HEAVY, substantial (never looked that way in pictures), and appears very well made despite the country of origin (rhymes with Dinah). It is so much quieter, both running and planing, than my lunchbox planer!

With the infeed and outfeed tables folded down, the footprint is not much larger than my lunchbox planer and stand. The little black box in the lower left of the stand is my wheel mounting bracket.

Hmmm... looks like it makes a big mess. You don't want a nasty, messy machine like that to make your shop dirty do you? Looks like it would fit in better in my shop!!! :lol:

Thats right, if you only take a hair off, it will leave marks. It used to bother me, so much I started searching for planers with rubber infeed rollers like the lunchboxes, there were some Euro machines that had them along with the Woodmaster.

But after a while it didnt bother me anymore, just try and take at least 1/32 or more off and the marks will not be there.

Frigitor has it right, just arrange your cuts so that you are not taking just a hair off on the last pass. If it still leaves them with a larger cat then maybe the blade setting is off.

I have a Grizzly planer that does the exact same thing. It is just something to get used to IMO. Just make sure you are taking some stock off before running it through if you are on your final pass. The serrated rollers are very good for handling rough stock. Just remember you now have a light commercial grade machine, but running a board through without taking any wood off is now a no no.

It makes you wonder why they have a slow "finish" feed speed. Hopefully the Wixey digital thickness gage will help me plan and control my cuts.

Mine is 2 speed as well. I have yet to change the speed (have had it about 10 years) as I prefer the higher cuts per inch.

I bought the Wixey readout when they were on sale a few months back and had intended on mounting it on my lunchbox planer, but never got around to it. Actually I bought two, and will be putting the other one on my drum sander. I also have a pre-production Wixey digital tablesaw fence system Barry Wixey sent me to BETA test last winter. I'm not sure if he is delivering the production versions yet or not. There were a few minor issues he was working on. It is really neat, but almost gives too much precision- since you CAN, you tend to want to set the fence precisely whether you need to or not, which requires a bit of tap, tap, tapping to get it to .001 :roll::roll:

Maybe I'll do a review when I get them all up and running- the "Digital Shop."

Nice planer. When I had my Parks planer it would also leave the same marks on the finished product when taking a thin pass. Most if not all would disappear upon finish sanding.
Please post some pics when you get your Wixey mounted. I talked myself out of buying one when Woodcraft had them on sale. I still may get one to mount to my jointer/planer machine, since the scale is printed with metric dimensions instead of good-ole inches and fractions. I think I may like the precision of one of these.
Don't forget: watch those fingers.

I believe I speak for the group when I say I am sad that your massive, brand new planer with the Wixley readout leaves a few marks if you take off 1/128th inch!!!:-(

Nice toy! I fully expect it to be eating some wood soon for an upcoming bench gloat!!

I was wondering if anyone had additional information on this "Wixey readout"? Is it adaptable to all types of planers? The scale on my pm 100 is almost unreadable.
