LOML (Stoneskippers) has been finishing up the coffee table. It's made of the QS sycamore we got at the picnic and walnut. He's not quite finished with it yet, but I just had to show you. Even though I'm biased, it's beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The walnut strips in the top are actually inserted as tongue and groove strips.

Here is an end view. You can see the curved legs are each two pieces and the bottom shelf is walnut with sycamore strips and sits on notched cross pieces. The cross-pieces are connected to the legs with square dowels and the top have maple (I think) shims.

These are the last two for now. Some of you remember how I fussed at John for "stealing" my sycamore, but knowing that I can look at this tables, and the end tables to follow, every day just makes me beam with pride!

Cathy, that is excellent work. The closest I could come to that craftsmanship is to be standing in the same room.

John really did those up nice, that's a very unique and graceful design with curves and mixture of complementary woods. One cool thing about QS sycamore is it's ray fleck is not overpowering at a distance, as you get closer you see the fine interwoven grain and figure, it kinda draws you in for a closer look see...

Thanks

Unbelievable! Very, very nice :icon_thum. I hope someday I can do work like that too :eusa_pray

I have just two question: 1) what kind of finish did he use? and 2) what does "fascomatomg" mean?

Superb John!
Seems you always add unique designs to your craft.
Reminded me of the "extras" you added to this box :eusa_clap

Cathy, that looks GREAT! Thanks for sharing the pix.

I really enjoy seeing the projects that folks make out of lumber that I've dried.

Have a great Thanksgiving.

That is really beautiful table. Nice craftsmanship. I like the wood combination:eusa_clap:eusa_clap I have some QS syscamore (thanks to Ivey) that is drying. I hope I can make something half as nice.

But Cathy you really need to spruce up your living room floor a little.:lol::lol:

The finish is one coat of shellac and 3 coats of poly.
fascomatomg - means that Cathy is typing without her glasses again.

That is a beautiful table! I love the double through tenons for each leg, or are they wedged?

They are through tenons iwth wedges.

Okay - if you are going to be picky, I want you to know that we really don't "live" in the shop. Here are pictures of the table in the living room. I believe that John is going to put another coat of finish on the bottom shelf, and then probably a final finish on all of it. We had to move it to the house so we could make more dust in the shop.:eusa_danc

Cathy, I can see why you would be proud. The coffee table is beautiful. I like the tenons with the wedges. I have seen that but never tried it myself. It is good to know that if and when I decide to make a project with the tenon and wedge I will know who to come to. But have I ever been here for help and not found it. I will close by saying there are two talented folk in your house. Isn't it something guys to see a couple who share the love of woodworking. Hands up for both of you. Lorraine
