No I know there has been such a small amount of anvils on CL, someone's been hoarding them. It does seem like a strange collecting fetish to me though:gar-La;.

How would you explain this to the LOYL? :rotflm: It followed me home? No honey this anvil is special, I can do ....on it? This is an upgrade to the 149 anvils I already own? This is a LITTLE odd.

After the first one, I know I would get hammered for bringing the second one home. :gar-La;. And yes it IS weirder than routers!

I don't know. Maybe bought them cheap and collecting them for scrap value?

Wouldn't mind having one or two.....

Good thing he is selling them; the Earth is probably wobbling funny from the weight distribution... :rotflm:

No honey...I said please bring me a bunch of "ADVIL". I have a headache you moron.

Word of caution. His prices seem too high. Used anvils less than 200 lbs should sell for +/- 1.50/Lb. Looks like he's closer to 3.00/Lb.

Maybe he just went to the desert & picked up Wylie's used ones.:gar-La;
What amazes me is seeing them all on those spindly folding saw horses.
I wonder if anvil collectors have conventions?:rotflm:

great find Phil..

I hope to go take a gander at them this weekend. Rarely can you find a clean forged anvil without spending an arm and a leg.

I have been building up courage to buy a Peddinghaus but before i drop that amount of coin I will peruse the wares here first.

when you go please take more pictures and see if you can get the back story on how they acquired all these anvils. it's gotta be a good one.

i have an anvil from my great great grandfather so I'm good, don't think I'll ever need another one.

That would be true if they were cast anvils. There is only 1 forged anvil maker left and that Peddinghaus in Germany. They run 1100 for a 165 pounds. A 225 pound one is 1600.

Most of the pre 1900 anvils are forged and they are out of business. The problem with the used forged anvils is the wear and tear. if the face is messed up and the edged curled you cant true them up because there isn't a file that will score them due to the rockwell hardness usually in the range of 58-65. That's pretty stinking hard.

All modern anvils today (except Peddinghaus) are cast or cast with forged attached. I only wished I had gotten my great granddaddies anvil instead of my cousin as it was in immaculate condition.

He's got these re-listed today. Guess the soft economy is affecting anvil sales as well.:rotflm:
