If there's a demo not too too far from Lenoir, I'd like to see one in operation. Not sure I understand enough about one to exspend the pp. But would like to learn.

I have a Shaper Origin and I'd be happy to do a demo for anyone that's willing to travel to Chapel Hill. I'll even let you do the cutting after you watch me so you understand how the machine works. It's quite simple to use once you understand. Very much like using a Router, but with some digital guidance.

Shaper announced sunset for Shaper Origin Gen 1 software updates. "Oakland", the update that came out a couple of days ago will be the penultimate release [next to the last] for Gen 1 machines. The Gen 1 machines are amazing tools and will continue to be very able handheld CNC devices for a very long time but this announcement will doubtless cause a steep drop in the used machine price. I plan to keep my Gen 1 harnessed to the Bench Pilot.
Not sure I need to upgrade although, Shaper is selling reconditioned Gen 2 machines for $2,400 and Gen 1 recons for $1,900 both with free shipping.
Oddly, I can't find a listing on their site for the new SM2 spindles. I bought mine on the prelaunch sale. It's a nice update but there's no apparent difference in the end product. At least to me. Maybe the high price made it a non-starter.
