I know this is a long shot, but I thought I'd try. My grandmother want's a new mantle to match the floors in her home. Unfortunately for my great uncle, the one making the mantle, the floors are fake chestnut, and they live out west in Utah where that wood is even rarer than around here. He's asked me to help him source 4 8'x8" 4/4 boards, though the mantle will only be 6' long so there is some flexibility in the widths and lengths of course. I'd be happy to pay a fair price if anyone has some they are willing to part with from their lumber hoard, thanks for reading this.

Where are you located? I may have some to sell. I'm in the Raleigh area. The lumber was reclaimed from an old house in Western NC almost 50 years ago. Never been kiln dried, but that shouldn't be necessary. It will have nail holes. Are you planning to ship this to Utah?

Sassafras can be a great substitute for chestnut, but I don't know the availavility in Utah. Kiln dried, and new lumber does not have nail holes, but you may have to drill your own worm holes to match, if it needs it. There may be some place closer to Utah that has it in stock and will ship a small quantity. Six foot material might be easier and cheaper to ship, using UPS.

FWIW.
