While doing things unrelated to umbrella repair, I stumbled upon this gem...

AWCoding- Donation System
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=177437

AWCoding has a very thorough Demo page here: http://www.forumcoding.com/demo/

Another option is:
Cyb - PayPal Donate
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=177563

Both offer a nifty feature they call "donation bars" :

This Bar might be an interesting replacement for the Scrolling Banner.

I know next to nothing about how our donations stuff works, so I'll leave these neato whiz bang options for your consideration.

A lot of the features I see might be of help to Stuart and Travis.

I think BT3Central uses this bar, from what I understand it's tied automatically to PayPal so that it automatically gets updated when a donation is received.

Can it differentiate between payment types? I only have 1 Paypal account and it is receving money from donations, the auction, and our advertisers.

I'd be in favor of the colored bar as was shown in the OP in this thread -- I don't know if the countdown timer that Jim has in the third post will be worth the effort. One question about the barometer -- what happens when the donations exceed the goal? Does it show if members continue to give? I'd hate to see people turn away from a donation because we met a quarterly goal.

We all realize that Steve initially didn't even want donations, let alone our announcing results. But we are past that and they are key to the success of the site. A tool like this will be much easier for members to monitor progress than the persistent scrolling marquee.

I totally agree, lets post the barometer!

I just remembered as well, I get checks in the mail and then there are those that refuse to use paypal, so just linking to paypal won't work. Still, no biggie in maintaining it.

I read the docs on these two, they both can handle Paypal, credit card and Manual donations.

It looks like they put themselves between the donatee and Paypal, so we'd be recording donation data and sending them to Paypal.

While we'd incur some work to manage the tools, they would not require you to update every donation manually.

Not to mention the much loved barometer thing.... which I would like to ensure bombards Reggie at every turn :tongue2:
