I finally got the neck feathers done. Just a ton of skew chisel work followed by even more work to get clean cuts. I then went over all the neck feathers with a small #11 gouge or "U" shaped tool followed by a white stone in the foredom to carry the cuts to the end of the feathers. Will probably have to do that again later to further define the feathers.
I also put a coat of shellac on the background to keep it clean and will do the same to the carved areas. I thin the shellac by 50% (whatever cut that is) for good penetration and it does not clog my stone burrs if I need to retouch.
The eye is a piece of painters tape with black marker and white acrylic paint to give me an idea of what it will look like. Later i will paint it with black paint and put a coat or two of CA glue on it to get a good shine.
Hope you like it and I will continue to post until it is done.
