Hey gang.,

I've started a new rocker and decided to cut parts for two while I'm doing the bandsawing..one in QS Spalted Sycamore (Jeff..this the last of it:sad11:), the other in Cherry.

I end up with a lot of weird shaped chunks, all 8/4 thick..but easily transformed into useful wood..specially for the turners. There's also a bunch of straight pieces of varying thickness..and some real pretty QS Sycamore for you pen turners.

I'll take the lot over to Woodcraft sometime tomorrow morning.

Your making another Sycamore rocker? Dang, I best get busy and quarter saw you up some more 9/4. It's going to have to wait till my shoulder gets a little better.

Thanks Fred,

LOML has a small task for me first thing in the morning.

Woodcraft's only a 10 minute drive for me..plus I'll have an excuse to poke around in there for a while:wink_smil. I'll probably get there around 10:30AM.

Appreciate the offer though:eusa_danc

Sorry to hear you have a bum shoulder...you been letting trees fall down on you??:nah:
If you have more QS Sycamore(9/4)..whooppee. I'd also really like you to find some curly/figured anything (ie. Cherry, Maple, whatever), but I know that's asking a lot:gar-Bi

Don I eyed a really nice sycamore butt log about a month ago, I didn't have my trailer with me at the time and the guy wanted to load it in the back of my pickup . It's about 5' in diameter but only a little over 6' long there's probably a good 900 BF of sawable lumber in the log. It's to big for my mill so I would have to split it into quarters with a chain saw. I immediately though of you and sawing it up 9/4 thick for rocker wood. I'm estimating 1 quarter would probably make 3 maybe 4 rockers around 225 BF or so.

Do you have room somewhere out side it stick and stack about 900 BF of 9/4 QS Sycamore? It would need to be covered with landscape fabric and slowly air dry for a while. I think the max mosture content loss per day would be around 1%, so you would need to keep it covered. Once it gets down to around 20% MC you would need to tap Scott to polish it off for you in his kiln.

I would love the chance to bust that log open :gar-Bi

Thanks

Jeff,

I'd love it if you busted up that log too!!:gar-Bi

I'm going to set up a flat place behind the shop where it gets partial sunlight during the summer. I have piles of Grizzly dumps out there I can rake flat and set in some 6X6's as a base for stickering. I have a bunch of 8' long fiberglas panels I was think of using to keep the rain off...would you use the landscape cloth under that??:dontknow:

So when you quarter it, I assume the mill is going to slice off some nice 9/4 QS boards..and 5 or 6' length is perfect for me.:wink_smil

I don't want to be greedy...a quarter of the log is good for me.:icon_thum
Enough guys have seen how beautiful this stuff is that you're probably get a lot of attention when it's ready.

I have about 100 BF of Ambrosia maple air drying and waiting for me to pick up in Rolesville as soon as I make some space in the shop. Looks like I'll have enough rocker material to keep me busy for quite a while.

That doesn't mean I'm not interested if something "unusual" shows up:nah:
