Though I have a new to me lathe I have yet to fall into the abyss called the "dark side". In fact the scroll saw was running tonight. While I can still function in the "light" I would like to build a wine rack. Nothing super fancy but nice. Size wise I am thinking like something to hold 12 to 16 bottles. :eusa_naug Don't go there..... That is a 2 to 3 year supply if not more. :wwink:
Any one have any suggestions or plan recommendations?

Scott, that would depend on the location and style of the rack. If you have room over the frig, here's an idea:

There's one in a recent issue of Wood magazine, I believe. Or was it Shop Notes, or Woodsmith? :eusa_thin

I know its a convenient place but storing wine over the fridge isn't very good for the wine. The heat from the fridge will ruin it.

I suspect this might be a little larger than you need -- I built this in 2006 and it was the July photo on the first NC Woodworker.net Calendar. Built of White Oak and African Mahogany, it holds 30 cases!

Hi Scott,

Certainly not as big and professional looking as Rob's, I built this one for a daughter of mine from the Wood magazine plan. I built mine out of red oak, where the original plan called for cherry, I believe.

You could modify the plan a little to add an additional stash for three more bottles. (That would get you up to 12 bottles of wine on the wall!:wsmile::wsmile:) Also. If I were to do another, I think that I would consider a glass door added.

I have more pictures of the WIP in my gallery if you are interested....

Well, one simple way is sections of PVC pipe, stacked in a frame, preferay a wood frame. I'd use PVC cement to tie them together, to keep them from possibly shifting or moving. Just make sure you get pipe large enough to hold a bottle, before you star.

If you just want ideas, I'd check google images for "wine rack". Or, if you want actual plans, I'd google for something like, free wine rack plans, there's some nice ones out there, some simple, some complex.

Will, I'm afraid you'd be disappointed because that was a commissioned project for a neighbor and friend of ours :eek:ccasion1. It was the July 2007 Calendar Photo, shown here:

If you want to see more details as I built this project (it covers a 9-foot wall in a wine cellar), check out my Wine Cellar Album in my Gallery. This project has lots of components, but I built it in modular form so we (it was a collaboration with Steve DeWeese - SteveD) could assemble it in place. The clients (he is a former marine and she is former Air Force) have filled it with their marvelous collection of wines and enjoy tastings right there at times! We built it in the late summer-early Fall of 2006 -- here is the thread, but unfortunately, the picture links are no longer valid because I set up Albums when we got the newer Gallery software.

Rob,

In some ways I'm glad that you said it was a commision, because I don't see an area for that sacred single malt:lol:
