A friend brought me some wine barrels and wanted rocking chairs made from them. Beautiful, knot free 1 1.4" thick french oak but absolutely no straight edges or flat surfaces. Put together with stainless steel screws and finished with spar varnish. The dark stain is red wine.

They are beautiful. I love it. On a hot humid day you will smell the wine. Nice job.

Wineries will sell their old barrels. They use the barrels for about 5 years after which all the effects the oak has on the wine has been used up. New french oak barrels are EXPENSIVE, over $1,000.00 each. A local winery, Shelton"s Vineyards, sells their used barrels for $100.00 each. I think Horizon Cellars in Siler City is the closest winery to you. Whiskey barrels will also work but I have no source for them.

They look great. You can get some amazing projects when recycling.

Beautiful rockers! Like how you use the curves and staves on the build. They came out looking comfy and sturdy. Like the finish as well. Great job!
