Well--

We picked the perfect day; Matt picked the perfect place; and we both picked at David's (Gillie) brain for morsels of his expansive knowledge of wood and woodworking

Matt, David, and Roger at the Dock Side Restaurant in Wilmington

It was a delightful day with Matt squiring me around and David allowing us a visit to his shop. David's shop is well-equipped with ample evidence of "real" woodworking going on.

So thanks to Matt for putting up with a "nattering" old man and to David for displaying some beautiful wood and patiently explaining the qualities, varieties, and best use of wood types! :icon_thum

When were you guys at Dockside? I was there on Sunday around noon. I was the dummy who had forgotten to put on sunscreen Saturday before spending 3+ hours at the beach with my kids (didn't think we would be there for more than an hour). Geez, that water was cold!!1 I didn't get in any deeper than my knees but my 6 year old son couldn't be stopped. I think he left a few seashells on the beach.

If only you had been wearing some NC Woodworker apparel.....

Looks like a great time was had by all. I am envious of y'all for getting to meet the famous (infamous) David Gille in person. It's his fault that I am a Waterlox user (probably abuser).
Dave:)

Yeah, I had a great time. Always fun to BS with other woodworkers.

WW2K - we were at Dockside yesterday. So, we didn't see anyone immitating a lobster covered in sawdust. Your kids are nuts! This is still full-suit weather. That's why the surfboard is still in the garage (yeah, I know I'm a wimp...)

Funny, I had lunch with him yesterday and a can of Waterlox appeared in my garage today. He also got me going on Danish Oil a week or two ago... He's like the drug dealer of the woodworking world...

From Danish Oil to Waterlox to what?? I keep hanging out with David and he'll have me so severly hooked that I'll be broke, no wife, no home, and with a nasty wood finish habit to support.

Anybody notice in that pic that Matt chose a really inopportune time to fix a wedgie?
