Who needs a free Veritas dovetail saw?

As the title suggests, I'm giving away a Veritas 20 PPI dovetail saw. It's a nice saw that could stand a sharpening. I bought it a long time ago, but now that I make my own I no longer need it and it's just in the way.

Free... with the usual caveats. You must be an "established" member with at least some posting history. I would also prefer to give it to a new woodworker interested in delving into the world of hand tools.

Reply if you're interested. I'll choose somebody from the list....not necessarily in chronological order. I'll eat the shipping within reason.

I'm interested. Fairly new, under 3 yrs. Been using a Japanese saw on a few small projects. Not all that improved yet nor am I sure if I would like a western saw.

Not sure how to sharpen them but I assume videos exist on the process

I live in shelby

A super generous deal! I do recommend for a beginner in hand joinery to have the saw professionally tuned. It is very hard to learn when you don't know if your problem is your stance or the tool. Usually both. Until I bought a Florip dovetail saw I was very frustrated. Saw fixed, so then I only had to fix me. With more skill one can probably make a bad tool work. I am not that good.

Yes, many excellent videos on how to sharpen. Practice on a cheap saw with cheap files. Go back 100 years and every carpenter and cabinet maker sharpened their saws. Critical when hand powered for a living. It can't be that hard as even I can do a fair job but 20 TPI is smaller than I have tried. I would not want to risk such a good saw first time.

Hey Chris, show off one of your saws. We love to drool!

I’m interested as well. I’ve been woodworking for a few years and have hand cut one gappy set of dovetails for a small box with a Japanese saw but have no Western saws. Hillsborough

I haven't made anything lately aside from a bathroom vanity and the kitchen cabinets that I'm working on now. I've been renovating another house that I own and that's been taking up most of my free time. That and cleaning out my shop...

But I'll show a saw that I made for Graham (j_graham) and one that I made for myself ....in its current iteration. Mine has become a test mule of sorts.

Cuts like a dream now too. It took time to learn about tuning it, and plenty of help. But that goes for most every saw
On a side note, it also cuts nice gashes in your thumb if you get careless and don't think about the material you are cutting! Haha fortunately it is merely a flesh wound.

Sweet. I like the longer horns to balance in your hand. Even my Florip handle was not smoothed as nicely. Feel matters. :)

Awesome. I was under the mistaken impression that you lived near Raleigh so Graham (@J_Graham) graciously agreed to take it back to Zebulon to facilitate a pony express transfer. He came down for a visit and tool exchange Saturday. I'll get up with him and make arrangements to get it to you ASAP.

I have your into so I'll pm you the details one I get it sorted.
