Being new to the this site, I will mostly just look around and get acquainted with the site. I am a part time woodworker but havfe been at is for about 25 years. Most of my projects have been furniture, I especillay like the Shaker styly of furniture because of the simiplicity and functionaly of the furniture. Also I work with a group of local friends buidling barns and shelters at their homes. Ws started these type building projects after hurricane Fran which blew over many trees arround Richlands. Most of the barns were built from lumber cut from the site where the barn is located. We had a local person with a portable saw mill to come to the site and saw the lumber, then allowed the lumber to air dry until the project was started. We are continuing these projects even today but at a much slower pace.
Also I have built furniture from walnut, cherry and oak trees which were damaged by Fran, which we had saw milled into various dimensions for furniture use. Of course this lumber required drying and is still drying today. However we did dry some lumber with a make-shift dryer using a LP gas heater and fan. The walnut table I built from this process has not split yet, so the drying must have been sucessful.
My full time job is as a self-emplyed real estate appraiser, this occupies most of my time but still allows some time to be in the shop.
