I am a (very) new member to the organization.
Two quick questions.
Do any of you know where I can locate dimensional White Cedar? Building deck chairs.
Also, I am looking for a woodworking lathe if anyone knows of one for sale.

Look forward to talking with y'all

Peter, welcome to NCWW. We have another Forum titled "Who We Are" which is an excellent place to introduce yourself to our members.

White cedar is usually available in the coastal regions of NC but you have to search to find it. Here's a recent thread on the same topic.

You'll have better luck finding a wider selection of dimensional cypress for your deck chairs. It's a pleasure to work with and plenty durable for exterior applications.

Contact Rick DeNardo in Mooresville, NC. He's just up the road from you.

Ivy Pridgen at Beaver Branch Saw Mill can help you with the white cedar or with some nice cypress. He's near Burgaw, NC. I buy from him fairly regularly and he's a good source.

I have an old Homecraft (Delta) 10" lathe that I am willing to sell. Would make a nice starter lathe and comes with quite an assortment of accessories. PM me if you're interested.

Peter,

I would build the chairs using cypress. It's local, affordable, is a great outdoor wood and VERY nice to work with. Go see Rick in Mooresville at The woodworking Source. He has nice wood and you will be happy. He is just up 77 to exit 36. Have fun.

Hello and welcome!

I have a benchtop lathe I'm trying to sell. I don't have a picture of mine, but here a stock image of the exact one I have.

The only difference is the black casing covering the belt is broken during moving. I still have it. I also have 2 brand new belts for it. Also an extension bed is included. The lathe is in like new condition, I bought it with a quantity of tools and already have one of my own. The guy I bought it from took very good care of it, he said he used it 3 or 4 times.

PM me for details if interested

Thanks for reading
