What Wood is This

What wood is this? It has a strong smell to it. It reminds me of the smell that hits you when you walk into Klingspor in Cary

Judging from the stripes and coarse grain, I'd guess one of the bewildering number of eucalyptus species that are sold under names that seem to vary from seller to seller.

What kind of properties would this wood be. Hard? Soft? Etc.

That is Sapele. It looks kinda like Mahogany but has the veining.... striping when finished. Wet it and you will see

Definitely sapele. One of the easiest woods to work with. Creates a lot of fine dust when sawing, so wear a mask. Relatively hard wood, but not so hard as to dull tools easily. Finishes nicely too, and doesn’t require a stain - the natural color of the wood is pleasing and uniform.
