What grit wheels do you have on your grinder

I read a lot of posts on grinding elsewhere and pretty sure there are some discussions here - most all mentioning that 180 CBN is generally fine enough for turning so I just swapped out a 36 that I don’t use much and made a jig for sharpening the gouges. The CBN seemed to do a good job with a very light touch. The jig produced a nice smooth grind. Have not yet tried out any freshly sharpened gouges yet, maybe later if my back feels ok. I previously used a grinder with a white wheel that I think is 80 grit. I have a slow speed horizontal water stone wheel around 1000 that I use for polishing flat bevels. Have not yet made a jig for gouges since most say it’s not worth the effort to polish them.
Update: gouges and a scraper seem to cut well. Only a quick test, no finishing cuts. Personally can’t see grinding any finer. Watched a Richard Raffan video on scrapper sharpening, he was using an 80 grit CBN, so I moved on to his gouge sharpening videos, all he used was 80 grit.

60-grit Norton 3X blue grinding wheel. Not for turning tools but for repairing blades with chunks missing from the edge. This is a "cool" running, friable stone I switched to after reading an article in Fine Woodworking by Joel Moskowitz. He recommends dressing a belly in the middle of the stone edge vs a flat edge so it's only contacting a small section of the edge to prevent overheating. This also allows you to approach the edge without worrying about being perfectly square with the stone.

They came with white wheels. I’m looking at going to the CBN.
So everyone will have there own opinion with this but. I have tried a bunch of different grit wheels and I have settled on 150ish grit and 320ish based on a bunch or recomedations from profesional turners and then my own experience. I'm right handed so I throw my 320 on the left side so when I free hand sharpen I can get my body out of the way when im honing or touching up the edge and I throw the courser grit on the other side the side because I only use it for reshaping. When I first invested in cbn sharpening wheels the only one company that had CBN wheels they recommended 320-600 and I never use the 600 grit it always burned up my tools and heats up to quickly, so I wouldnt ever recommended that fine unless you really need it for a special purpose.
CBN 240 and 600. Never have any problem with over heating.
I went back through my record and I have the 180 grit CBN not 240.
I use it for rough grinding plane blades/chisels, and reshaping turning tools.

I have CBN wheels on my slow speed Rikon grinder. One high grit and one lower, lower for shaping and higher for honing. Wood Turning Wonders is a great site for CBN wheels and are sold in pairs at reasonable costs. Make sure to get a set of self balancing washers for each wheel.
I got my CBNs from Wood Turning Wonders as well. Got a 180 and 600. I use the 180 for really dull stuff or reshaping, and the 600 for touching up the edge while turning. Never had an issue with overheating. It was an investment, but it was well worth it.
I have two types of grinders.
Older 6 inch grinder with an 80 and 180 grit wheel but the key is it's a high speed grinder 3400 RPM.
Then I bought a newer one several years ago from wood Turners wonders which was on sale with the 1750 RPM Ricon motor with two wheels at the time. Fri, Dec 30, 2022, 7:07 PM came in.

then in july 8, 2023 got another wheel
Less aggressive 600 grit wheel for joint chisels and Plane irons.
Use the 6 inch grinder after I got to for doing the basic sharpening found it to be aggressive and easily metal gotten hot but not enough to temper because I learned these from machining Keep your finger at the very tip that you're grinding if you feel eat you dip it in the water to cool it off
What's nice about the CVN wheels they cut very rapidly and do not generate much heat and if you are being careful using this proper jig to hold them it only takes a few moments to get the chisel sharp.
Also bought the oneway Wolverine jig attachments and set the 6"grinder up with that.

This was the smaller chisels especially small plane irons.
At it was a difficult decision to spend the $540 on a grinder with two wheels understandably CBN wheels are not inexpensive but three years later it does definitely make my enjoyment of using the lay much better,, much less hassle with getting the correct grind on the various tools while using it and actually in some cases a little bit faster.
The old saying having the right tool for the job does make a difference.
Also buying plastic jig for setting the platform angle, was well worth the expense. you can get back to that angle correctly every time There are many brands that are out there Some work a little easier than others.
Quad Sharpening Jig - Because it sets the platform at proper angles to grind 4 different HSS wood lathe tools. about $20.
There is no name I have including on the instructions.
As with any hobby woodworking is a never ending learning experience.

Sometimes we will go a low cost route because we're not sure that the hobby that we are what we can is what he really want to do for myself it was about the lathe was a hand me down from my father from all his other tools and needed some missing parts replaced which I did by getting a whole nother one and making one good one out of the 2.
Where the lathe had been stored Roof had leaked and the motor wouldn't run and the lady gave me a good price on the whole thing along with a bunch of chisels like skews and parting tools Again they all had a lot of rust or surface rust.
So between small set that my father had and this cleaning them up and learning how to grind was in itself a whole new learning curve.
Youtube videos how to and many books you read till you put that tool against that grinding wheel that's when your experience starts, begin Yes seeing some of the techniques helps but to get the muscle memory he just takes a lot of practice.
