Not much of a project, a small diversion while I was finishing the second sunroom chair. I was using a small spreader and the plastic handle suddenly broke. Just a cheap little thing but I hate throwing out anything I’m pretty sure I can resurrect. I have a small collection of hardwood scrap and saw a couple pieces of mahogany mistakes from making a new handle several yrs ago for a small paring knife. The good parts were big enough to rough cut the shape for an another smaller handle. So I traced the tang on both halves, chiseled out the tang recess which is only about 1”+ long, and epoxied it all together. Used a sanding drum, chisel and scraper to get the shape close to another spreader we have. Taped up the blade to protect it while handling. A couple coats of salad bowl finish and voila - better than the original.View attachment 245492

It’s mahogany. I believe it’s the genuine stuff from Honduras I originally got in the 80s for a conference table project.

Looks very smooth, something you want to pick up an have that feel, just fits the hand

I built this chair last year but hadn’t applied a finish yet. Our child has moved to Maine after a couple of years at home with us and I thought it would be a good housewarming gift. It’s black over red milk paint, sealed with Tried and True Varnish Oil and some brown paste wax. There were a couple of accidents where my sweat ruined the black topcoat, but some touch up with black craft paint saved it.

The sweat was mainly from burnishing the milk paint with steel wool before putting the varnish on. Our basement is pretty dry and cool so I think I just need to take frequent breaks when I do that.

I've taken on a project bigger than I probably should have. Working approx. 200 lineal feet of closets.

Below are some AI renderings of the project, the load of lumber, my planner working way harder than it's designed too and stacks of cut material.

I'll share some finished pics hopefully after I finally get this all installed next weekend.

I'll guess.. from when I was little age 5-6.. my grandfather made these widgets... that looks like that widget.. Place on the end of a finger you could balance a leather belt... Magic No clue if that's what your widget is . Thanks for posting can't wait to find out what is it ??
