That's part of wood working, It's "NOT"!! a screw up. It's an alteration in learning for the next project.. next time. A screw up is like what I did when I first started turning wood on my new lathe several years ago, Doing the A-B-C an the dang tool not cutting, tried an tried till the light went on, Duh I had the lathe running in reverse,
That’s the setting when you goof, and need to put the shavings back on. 🤣

More progress on the xylophone case:

Cutting dovetails on those angles was a trick but I got it done. I also got to use a ton of clamps, including some spool clamps I made for the occasion:

Up next is case hardware.

Long cold winter an unheated shop an low motivation an being sick trying to get something going on the scroll saw..
You can always play along with the Sunny Scroller’s group. The assignment for the month is Plate. Go to Steve Good’s sight. Enter Plate into the search bar and pick something. Everything from switch plate covers, small, decorative, catch all dishes and wall decorations.

My beautiful bride and I spent valentines day knocking out a project we’ve been putting off for quite a while: making baseboards for the rooms we’ve “finished” in the renovation.

Picked up some poplar from Jimmy Creagh in Raleigh. If you’ve never bought anything from him, he’s a great guy with fair prices on local hardwoods!

Milled everything up in the Makita 2030, squared up the ends, and rolled on primer.

Weather was great and allowed for some easy work and quality time. Hope everyone has a nice valentines :)

Finished up the last of the woodworking on this this evening - started just after Thanksgiving, ha. W/ the snow, I’ll probably use tomorrow to take it all back apart, finish sanding, and start applying finish.
Beautiful!

Finished two projects this weekend now that it is warm enough to glueup and apply finishes. Here is a set of shelves I made for my daughter. Sides are cherry, shelves are figured maple, and back is poplar with amber shellac. First time I have attempted stopped dados and am pleased with the look. Weight a ton.

Finished up a cabinet/bookshelf for our office this weekend, it's not perfect but I learned more to apply towards our kitchen cabinet build.

Now to hope I can find the same pulls I used on the desk cabinets....

Nice, my wife has asked for that as well. She wants built ins around the fireplace. Its on the list now and a far cry from building the small boxes I generally make. I guess my son would say its just a box on its side with no lid and dividers. Somehow it seems a little.more intimidating. Lol

Just pick up an extra sheet or two of ply and jump in.

Spraying the finish has been my largest opportunity for learning new skills!

I was at the same point some years ago, and learning to spray was the largest single jump in my woodworking (cap)abillties. Phil Soper hosted a workshop and hands-on guides to the basics of spraying. I now spray 90+% of my (not so numerous) projects with a very simple LVLP setup (recommended by Phil) that I have made work for me (inexpensive Spray-it gun and a compressor I already had). I only spray water based materials, primarily Target coatings (and thinned shellac in alcohol) and do so outside (weather permitting). Works for me.

Maybe it is time we (NCWW collectively) try to host this again. I am NO expert, and have no space to host such a thing, but I am proof that 'anyone' can learn to spray adequately enough for WW- ing.

What hvlp unit are you using?

I grabbed THIS gun from HF when they had it on special for $80 or so. Installed a canister dryer and a regulator at the gun.

It is more capable than I am at this point.

LVLP - Low volume, low pressure. Check not only the pressure needed, but the CFM requirements on the gun (compared to what your compressor can deliver: "X" CFM @ "Y" PSI.

This is something like it - except the control knobs on mine are red and I don't have a control knob on the side of the gun - but probably the equivalent

Also available on Amazon: (this looks a bit different, with control knob on the side, but likely works very similarly)

Very similar to one i got from a builder who closed his business. I have yet to use it but plan to start using it with shellac first. What air cap size does it have

That's very similar to whay I obtained from a friend who closed his remodeling business. Im am more used to hvlp but a few more adjustments on the gun with a little practice should work fine. Not sure what my compressor does as my dewalt died and im using an old one of my son's but I'll figure it out. Thanks. Great video lonk with instructions..

1.7mm

I've only used it to spray Sherwin Williams Kem Aqua and I've been pretty happy with the process and finish.
