Went back to my “roots” and turned a pen.

Hey all,

I made a cigar style pen for my sister-in-law to celebrate her new job.

The blank is made from Aspen and Pink Dyed, Mahogany and Maple veneers.

It is finished with 9 coats of CA (3 thin and 6 medium) and wet sanded to 15k.

I made a rookie mistake when turning the middle section as I used the wrong bushing. This meant one of the edges was slightly wider (.5 millimeters) which was just enough to feel a sharp edge. I removed the insides and unscrewed the point so I could put it back on the lathe in order to sand back the sharp edge. Was very nerve racking to sand back that edge while avoiding hitting the brushed hardware but I got it done with no issues. But breath was held during the process.

Enjoy and thanks for looking.

Looks great, sir. I started about three years ago with bowls and never tried doing a pen. Just this past week, I got a mandrel and such for pens, but I need to watch some vids to see how to arrange it all. I may be making it more complicated than it needs to be.
