Bumped the motor impeller fan while it was running and snapped it right off. Wouldn't be so bad except the fan is integral to the speed control so now it runs full tilt. I can repair it but in the meantime I'll hook up a more powerful motor which I haven't tested yet. Hopefully it works.

Fixed over the weekend. Unfortunately the more powerful motor has a flat pulley and just didn't fit on the lathe stand but I repaired the 1HP motor and am back up and spinning.

I did hook up and test the 2.25/1.5 HP motor and it spins like a top, just need to decide what to build with it.

I'd be curious to see that old motor if you have a picture.

They are both DC treadmill motors. Here is a pic of the 1 HP.

Attached to the GP lathe.

Attached to the Craftsman, where it is now.

Don't have any pics of the 1.5/2.25 HP but it's exactly like the one here:

I do both. The spinny thing is a relatively recent addition.

What possessed you to make the decision to spring for a spinny machine? Don't you know those things lead to the dark side?

Rick, sorry I missed your reply earlier.

When you said "flat pulley", my mind went straight to this kind:

Your DC motor is probably better suited if you have a VS controller for it.
