I am looking for some box elder for a flute making. Im just trying to get this wood for a replica flute If I can find some it would need to be 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 32"..Anyone got an idea where I might could find some? Or I may have to think of a substitute.

One of the members in our woodturning club used red transtint dye to color the stains in ambrosia maple. It looked very similar to box elder. I am not exactly sure how he kepy from bleeding outside the stained area

Is there box elder which doesn't have the "flame" (red) appearance? I also have read that the initial "flame" appearance fades a lot over time.

Yes I have seen some...There are several things that people say determine the red streaks...Some say a beetle ..some say a fungus...I have had some really beautiful wood in the past .A guy on wood barter website they say had a honey hole full of it...But he has passed now. I had gotten some from him.
