Walnut crotch wood scoop

I was at my sister's place for Christmas and noticed her ice cream scoop was an old aluminum one. Her birthday is in a couple of weeks, so I have taken it upon myself to remedy that problem. The overall length is 10". Finish is sanding to 2000 grit, then coated with Lin-Speed gunstock finish (hand-rubbed). I got my inspiration from honey dippers!

Looks great! Is the metal part stainless steel? I have purchased a few ice cream scoops at various places and they always get pitted over time. I have no idea what they were actually made of though....

It appears to be stainless steel. I bought the head and collar at Woodcraft. They retail at $13, but go on sale frequently for $10.
