I have an opportunity to buy some poplar at a good price. Is anyone interested in any. I will probably get about 400 bf that has not been spoken for. I will buy this if there is enough interest. Mostly 4/4, some 5/4 at between 8 and 12 feet lengths. This is air dried over the last ten years or more and stored in a weatherproof barn type structure. It is some good looking wood best I can tell. The price will be AROUND 1.00 per bf give or take. It all depends on the actual board footage there. I need to know very soon if there is enough interest. NOTE, I am making absolutely nothing on this wood so I would ask that you arrange pickup in or around Salisbury.

Best I could tell there are some "scrollable" boards in there. Some are kinda narrow, some are pretty wide and "scrollable. I will have a better idea tomorrow after I look at it in the daylight. If I get it you know there will be a wide board saved for you:gar-Bi

The "spoken for boards are yours" Dave.

I don't need any, but major kudos for arranging this! If you're stuck with too much lumber, let me know. Distance is the main obstacle, or I'd be knocking on your door right now :)

Re: Possible poplar available at a good price

Ok fellow woodworkers, I just made the phone call. It is gonna happen, hopefully by this weekend, weather permitting, I hope to have it all loaded and to my house in Salisbury by Saturday. I will post a closer board count as soon as it is loaded. I am getting the oak, which is mostly spoken for , and the poplar at the same time. As soon as it is in the driveway I will start sending pm's to whomever has posted that they are "IN".

Re: Possible poplar available at a good price

You may be wondering why I would go through the trouble to do this at "0" profit margin. This is an easy one to explain: I have learned so much from all of you since I have been here that it gives me great pleasure to be able to return something to the group. True it will cost me some gas money but I feel that the friendships that I have made here cannot have a monetary value placed on them. I just hope that this wood is as good a quality as I think it is. Either way at around 1.00 per bf a little waste would be ok. After all if I read the site policies correctly: This is along the lines of the spirit that Steve and the charter members intended to foster when putting this wonderful community of NCWW together. Glad I could help someone out.:icon_thum

Count me in if I can get a little pony express help. I would want 100bf of poplar.

Will Do. We will have to activate the pony express when the time comes.

Re: Possible poplar available at a good price

Great job setting this up Tracy. It's like "pay it forward". Working with such a good group makes it easy to give back.

Any Raleigh area folks coming this way to see Tracy for wood, please PM me. I have a 18" X 30" piece of granite from Fred P that I need Pony Expressed. I'll be glad to help with the gas money.

Tracy,
If I can get Greg to haul some over here to Mooresville I'd take 50 to 75 bf.

Re: Possible poplar available at a good price

Tracy,

If any of the poplar is still available I'd like 50-100bd/ft. I'm near DaveO and a bunch of other guys, so I'd have to deal with transportation the same as them.

Thanks either way,

Jimmy:mrgreen:

Should be able to fix you up too.

update

I did not pick up the oak or poplar due to rain. I am going to take the trailer over there tomorrow and should have all the wood in my possession by Saturday

Tracy,
Thank you:icon_thum. Once everybody figures out where this is headed, as in transportation, let me know. I'll do whatever I can.

Thank you again,
