Sorry to hear the news. I had the same thing happen to me only 3yrs ago. I had 22yrs in the textile chemicals field and 16 of them with the last company. I, like you, had started a part-time ww'ing business. I again like you pursued the tool rep thing without much luck. The one tool job I interviewed with went with the youngest, hence the lowest paid. They don't pay well BTW. Then I tryed part-time @ WW'ing store to get the tool discount. The hours there interfered with my ww'ing business. I then got an entry level lab tech job with a long commute. I quit after 4mos and rented a building and set-up my woodshop. I work harder now than ever before but at the end of the day I have done what I enjoy. I've said all this to say, I've been there and feel your pain.
