Working on these two. Designed by the late Steve Good. One is walnut and the other mineral stained maple. So far, I have only given them one coat of Danish oil. I will probably apply a coat of poly after they dry. They are cut out in a style called segmentation. All cut out of a single piece of wood with the same grain orientation. This is different than intarsia which uses multiple types of wood cut with different grain orientation. The pieces are then shaped by sanding just like intarsia. The game changer is the pneumatic drum sander I recent purchased from someone closing their shop. Each piece was sanded with 80, 120, 180 and 220 grit. Each one took about 90 minutes from miter saw to what you now see. Trying to decide if I am going to mount them on bases or make them as wall hangings.
