A while back there was a post about a TWA workshop for club members on use of handplanes. Well, there are only 4 openings remaining. The instructor has decided to provide all planes necessary for the workshop! The weekend (May 20th & 21st) will be spent working with a variety of planes to surface rough boards, cut moldings, make various types of joinery with planes and generally have an opportunity to explore the uses and advantages of hand plane woodworking. I believe he will also cover what you need to do to get your plane ready for use as well.

Though all planes will be supplied, you are encouraged to bring your own planes to use or to tune up. The workshop will cost $30 for one day (Saturday only) or $50 for Saturday and Sunday, and will be held at Tom Ferone's workshop in Raleigh. A signup sheet will be available at the TWA meeting. Club dues are $35 (with a $5 discount if you get the newsletter electronically), if you add the $50 for the workshop, you get one heck of a weekend for $85! Even better if you're aleady a member, eh?

What? My workshop! No one told me. Okay just kidding. This will be a a great class for anyone thinking about it. The teacher (Bill Anderson) taught the same class at Woodcraft and he put a lot of time and engery into it. You will learn in this class. Okay so now I need to get the shop ready for Garrett Hack class coming up.

DON'T DO THAT TO ME! 8-O

I also heard rumors that you are looking at adding another class at Woodcraft as well.

For those who have not been to Tom's shop - it is a beauty, but I believe he will need to pay some sort of penance for all of the "shop-lust" he creates!

I took Bill's class at Woodcraft and really enjoyed it. Bill is a great guy and a lot of fun to work with. I wanted to take this one too but have not convinced myself to join twa. Not that I would not enjoy being a member just a pretty good drive for the meetings.
