90% of my tools are Sorby which has the M2 steel. I have a D-way bowl gouge with the M42 steel. I really can't tell much of a difference in the steel. The D-Way might hold an edge 10% longer, maybe. I have a Carter & Sons negative rake scraper with M42 steel also, same deal, really can't tell a difference. I use wooden handles on all my tools. Just seems blasphemous to be a woodturner and not use a wooden handle, just my opinion.
