Hello,

I was wondering if anybody has tried turning spruce and would have any advice? We have a lot of old spruce wood in our school woodshop because they replaced our bleachers last year and kept the wood and I was going to attempt to turn it into pens as gifts for a few teachers around school.

Also, are there any places close to Chapel Hill that have hardwood turning blanks for sale? I'm making a bunch of bottle stoppers and other assorted items (all with hardware kits found online) and would prefer to be able to drive and pick up blanks vs. ordering them online. But if there aren't any places around, what's the best place to buy turning blanks online with regards to price and quality?

Thanks!!

Klingspor in Raleigh has blanks of different species. Woodcraft has them too, I think. I haven't been to Woodcraft in several years.
