Well I put some color on the head to make it darker than the handle. I followed up with some linseed oil thinned with turpentine and warmed up to help thin it out a little more. Slow drying stuff here. After it was fully dried, I just rubbed it down with some burlap and put some wax on it.

You can see its a little rough. It was tough to restrain myself from making it a furniture piece. I'm satisfied for now. When the next guy comes along wanting a tomahawk, I think I'm going to make the bear a little bigger, the ball about the same and I might try making one in cherry. Either way carving end grain has been an experience.

I have a few more shots in the Carving Stuff folder of my photos if you care to look. Back to the bench and back to work on the longrifle.

I always thought a Tomahawk had a cutting edge (metal or stone). Shows how much I know.:dontknow:
