I can hear the old gentleman who fell these babies now. Scored these from a gentleman in Nashville (North Carolina) this week. They came out of a warehouse that he bought and he was gutting a portion of it to replace the floor which had rotted out. The first pic shows the lot, the three on the left are 8 x 8 x 12 and the three on the right are 6 x 8 x 12 (2) 6 x 8 x 9 (1). The two on the far left are questionable as to whether there is any good wood left in them. The beetles had a feed fest on them. the other four seem to be in VG condition. I am contemplating using the far right three to make my workbench top. Just have to get someone to slab them up for me. Take a look at the one photo. Who says a warehouse can't have some nice touches ( lambs tongue) cut on the beam. The gent said the warehouse was built over 100 yrs ago so if you count the growth rings on the timbers, that wood must be at least 200 yrs old. Kinda mind boggling ain't it.

Wow, the tightness of the growth rings on that stuff is incredible. I can't wait to see what it looks like when you open it up. I'm guessing that's some beautiful stuff!

Man, I passed through Nashville on the way to work today. Wish I had known there was a wood give-away!!

Keep us posted.

Chuck,

I just happened to hear about it from a friend of a friend. My friend is getting up in years and didn't want to mess with them so he passed them on to me. Know anyone who can bust them open for me?

nice big pieces of wood MIke! I wish Fort Bragg had a recovery program for the wood in all those WWII barracks they have taken down in the last ten years. Some nice wood same rough size as what you have there... Oh well, there are still several older defunct mills in the area:-(

Michael,
There's a place in Zirconia that cuts wood like yours all day long. The Whole Log Lumber Co. buys salvaged timbers and saws them into whatever the customer wants. I toured the place last year and saw their process and the wood that they offer. Unfortunately, they are quite a drive from your area.
