Thoughts on a Basic face vise

Conclusion of previous post. The handwheel rotates quite smoothly in the plastic bearing plates and the spinner nut seems to have appropriate wink. Should have the prototype ready to use soon.

Got the second prototype leg assembly together today. I made the periphery of the front bearing plate 2-1/8” round to make excavating its pocket easier. Square or triangular would also work just as well. Wood is SYP from Homer’s with a coat of 50% BLO.

Next step is a chop.

This thread has gotten pretty long and includes some of my ideas that turned out to be wrong. Prototypes are meant to sort out wrong stuff.

I will be starting a new thread beginning at the point of making the redesigned nut block.
