Well it may just be early January and the weather outside is frightful. But soon it will warm up and the birds will be singin' again and it will be time for the 4th Annual North Carolina Woodworker Spring Picnic. It's time to start thinking about it.
First we need to set a date. To avoid the inevitable cat herdin' that will occur with date choosing I suggest what has worked the best for us in the past – the weekend between Mother's Day and Memorial Day, Saturday May 16th. I know that calling a date outright isn't going to work best for everybody, but I would hope that with ~5 months notice that y'all can block out a space on your calendar and come. I am hoping for the best turn out ever :eusa_danc.
As far as the food is concerned. In the past Steve and Gail Coles have provided some extremely fine catering from Red Hot and Blue :eusa_clap:eusa_clap. There has been some talk among folks about doing this years picnic as a pig picking. I really like the idea :icon_thum. North Carolina Woodworker can provide the pig, and I know there are some folks out there – BruceW, ScottS, IveyP, MikeD and others that can provide the cooker and the expertise to make it one of the finest :eusa_pray:eusa_pray. I would like to see this happen along with a general contribution pot luck. We'll cook the meat and y'all can bring the sides...especially the Deviled Eggs with Horseradish :eusa_danc.
In the past having it at Jordan Lake just outside of Raleigh has worked well. To be able to have it at the same sweet location as last year we need to go ahead and book it now.
Seeing as I have am working on taking over the Webmaster role from Papa Smurf
it is now my job to pull this off. I ain't retired and don't have as much time as he has to single-handedly pull this off myself. So I am asking for a few volunteers to head up a committee that will be known as the Picnic Planners :eusa_pray. If there are any volunteers or willing victims/nominees that would like to step forward and help me with this task it would be greatly appreciated. You will be rewarded with an extra helping of BBQ and the most sincere thanks from all the members of the site....I might even give you a hug :5grouphug.
As far as the details of the picnic are concerned. If it is to be held at Jordan Lake, there can't be any formal buying and selling (i.e. No lumber runs), and there is No alcohol allowed. The door prize drawings are still being considered along with the Swap and Trade table. It would be great to have displays of the fine woodworks that our members produce, so bring your stuff. Seeing stuff in person beats a picture any day. And as always the picnic is free to all members, LOYLs, kids and friends. If you feel you must donate or contribute please read the above...that will be the best way to do it.
So what y'all think and who is going to be the first to head up the Picnic Planning committee??
Don't be shy
Thanks for your attention!!!
