The AAW Symposium is under our belt

The AAW Symposium is complete and we are wrapped up. I’d like to thank everyone who participated and showed up to take part in spreading the word of woodworking. We spoke with many fine folks who had never heard of our little community. I feel we will gain the rewards of participating in such events far in the future. It’s a lot of work keeping our little site going. I do hope the members here appreciate the efforts that the few put forth to keep us alive and thriving for the future.

Someone much closer offered to help today so my help was not required. When I heard there was only one person to load all the tools and equipment into the trailer I was shocked and disappointed. So, I was ready to drive 2 1/2 or actually 5 hours round trip total. My health is not the greatest but I can still lift heavy objects for a couple hours when pressed. It hurts me for a few days after but I routinely do more than I should. I know there are lots of much younger people much closer to Raleigh who could help more than I can and be less of a burden on them, especially if three or four shared the work. If this group is going to survive and flourish then the younger members need to step up and help out. I will be 70 in the coming Spring and I am starting to feel old. Most of the original members and the most active sustaining members are as old or older. We give freely and are willing to share information and training to the members who ask. There should be some reciprocity.

Thanks for setting up a booth! I had a good time as an attendee on Saturday and helping out Sunday. I even got a full lathe course covering the entire turning process, from centering your material to loading your lathe into the NCWW trailer.
