My workbench has five wooden-jawed vises installed that I have built over the years. Part of the reason for keeping that many is to watch for any long term weakness in the designs. This tall vise gets the most use (and some abuse) by far.
I disassembled the tall vise today for some fettling and checked for wear on one of the bearing strips. This vise has had heavy use for over five years. The Al bearing strip in the leg has worn very slightly (guess 0.001 or 0.002) and I am fine with that.
The dumbbell screw which is plastic coated has shown no signs of wear which surprised me.
