6" Spiral Jointer Kit w/ Pulley Item# 1JSP6P.

I have just order a new cutter head for my jointer, and wanted to see if anyone had tried this before and how it worked for them. I should have the item next week, and will be posting my opion on installing and using the new cutterhead.

Thanks.

Michael,

I'm not familiar with the Sunhill cutterhead but I assume it has carbide inserts arranged in a spiral pattern. I just installed the Byrd Tool head of this type in my Delta DJ-20. It took a couple of hours but it was a fairly straightforward process. So far, it's great! I really like the fact that changing the inserts when they get dull is so simple and doesn't require any touchy allignment like the old straight knives do. I think you'll like it.

Which did you get the HSS spiral or carbide spiral. There are two kinds. The spiral HSS works pretty well to reduce chipout, but dulls quickly. I have a spiral HSS head on my jointer and have ordered a Byrd head to replace it. The head worked well, but dulled too quickly.

The Byrd spirals are awsome. :) Installation won't be bad. Just drop down both tables all the way and you'll have easy access to the head. You will have to remove the belt, but that is no big deal. The rest is dependant on your particular jointer. I'll have bearings to remove and reinstall.

Good Luck,

John
