Suggestions on Moderation request

OK folks, remember I'm still new to Moderation (in too many ways:lol. Anyway I see the need for two changes in "Hello from Durham" thread in the Who We Are forum. John has a post that I think should be moved to "Power Tools" forum and Mark has one that should be moved to "For Sale".

Clay is the Moderator for forum, but the post affords me an opportunity to follow the process in action. Sooo, should the moderator go ahead and move the posts, then notify poster OR vice versa???? OR, of course, one could just reply to the post and suggest they start new threads.

Well, here's my take...
Since it was all brough up in the course of conversation, if you just move those posts, it's going to leave holes in the thread and it won't make any sense when someone reads it. I'd suggest either copying the post to a new thread in the appropriate forum or suggest to them to start a new thread in the right forum.

I would move the posts, then notify the poster that they were moved and why. Splitting threads is a little trickier than just moving a thread to another forum. To split off certain posts to their own thread, that thread has to be created. Then the split posts can moved to it. The problem is that the split posts will fall in cronological order, so if you start the thread with a post it will end up at the end of the thread cronologically.
Give it a try, the worst that can happen is that you will end up with a wierd looking thread. That's how I learned :lol::lol::lol:

Ok, here's my plan . . . please clean up any messes I make :lol:

I'll go ahead and create new thread and move John's post/question about jointer alignment . . . and send him a PM.

I'm not 100% confident that Matt wants to sell the Planer so, I'll PM him and suggest that he or I start a new thread?

Thanks Dave, though it wasn't perfect I'll take the raise. The move did elicit two quick responses for John and that was my goal :icon_thum

Now I see what you mean about starting new thread. It moved my initial post chronologically. Tried to start thread without text, but system refused . . . demanding at least one character prior to creation. Is there a work around? I didn't use ModCP, perhaps it allows better control.
