The whole issue of subscriptions can become complicated, because, as usual vBulletin has provided a very full featured approach. With that comes complexity. Thsi whole topic deserves a complete tutorial in the FAQ forums, but for the next few weeks, I will not have time to do it or even search vBulletins lousy documentation to see if they have something close to it.
But perhaps I can clear up the issue that is the prime example.
The option in your profile to turn off subscriptions is not what most think it is. All you are doing is turning off new automatic subscriptions. Any subscriptions that are already in effect will continue to function as they were when they were orginally invoked.
Go to your user control panel and click on list subscriptions. If you want to stop those, you will have to delete them
