I am considering adding a Steel City 17-inch drill press. Does anyone have any experience with this model -- or Steel City tools in general? It seems a bit pricey, but I like the features. Expecially the 6-inch quill travel.

I will appreciate any info on experiences, pros, and cons. Even random thoughts on the subject.

Thanks for any help,
RayH

Steel City is a new company, but the people running it have been engineers, and other employees, of other machine companies ( Delta for one comes to mind). I've looked over their equiptment in the past at Woodworkers in Graham, and the seem to be a quality product. They seem to be innovative with ideas such as granite or titanium tops. If I needed a new piece of equiptment and their product fit the bill, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.

My .02 worth.

Jimmy:)

I recently purchased the Steel City Drill press and love it. It seems to me that I could pass this machine down to my grandkids if I wanted - it is built very solid. 6" of quill travel is nice - I'm satisified that I will never need to upgrade this Drill Press.

Also, some people are not big on the free laser, but I think it's a nice addition. It takes some time to set up right the first time (make sure the line is parallel), but once you're done it is always just there - X marks the spot.

Ray------------I own a SC drill press as well, along with their shaper and table saw. It is a nice drill press (mine does not have the laser). The chuck is a tapered fit and mine has come loose a few times, I would rather it be a threaded chuck but life goes on. I like the system for tightening the belt when you change speeds-----that handle is a lot easier than a pry bar ....LOL.

Customer service is great with Steel City--------I had some issues with wings for the shaper and table saw. They replaced the wings hassle free at no cost to me.

Over all, I am happy with the drill press.

Jimmy - Pete - Jerry,

Thanks for the information on Steel City. I belive one is definitely in my future. Now all I need to do is get rid of an old one and cut off some bench space to make room for the new one.

Again, thanks!:eusa_clap:eusa_clap
