Im 42 and now giving woodworking a try. My wife has had some experience with woodworking and my family has a few shops. Now I will try to make something. With the tools I have gotten at yard sales and the ones my wife already had I think we can make a good go at it. I will need plenty of advice so please throw it at me. See ya in the forums!:icon_thum

Welcome welcome welcome! It's never too late to start. There is lots of well ripened advice hanging around here, just waiting to be picked! Ask away and don't be shy. What sorts of projects are you going to try out?

Thanks for the warm welcome. Well first thing we are trying is something that requires minimal finishing. We are making aderondike chair and ottoman with a table. I got the plans from a guy on ebay. They are very details step by step with full size pattern for the parts. Anyway it seems pretty straight forward. Wish me luck. When I am done I will post pics.

I will post a few pics of the shop. It is a back yard shop and is only 12 x 12. I have a Shopsmith that was given to me by a guy at churh and my wife had routers, sanders, drill press and a band saw from her previous life. I had a skill saw and hand tools. In addition we added a scroll saw on clearance from Lowes and a Delta 12.5 planer. I think we can do a few projects with these tools untill we need something for a specific project. We are starting out chair and tables today. Ill keep ya posted.:saw:

You might want to look at this classic Adirondack Chair plan, called Jake's Chair. There is a downloadable set of plans for it as well.

Roger -- Comparing the pictures, the plan on eBay looks identical to the Jake's Chair plan to me -- just another example of how unethical some people can be. They are ripping off someone else's free design and ripping off people that buy it from them. I hope you didn't pay a ton for the plans. :eusa_pray

OK, Take a look at my photo gallery, I took some pics of my tiny shop. It is small but I can deal with it for now. I am already making modifications on a few things and moving some tools to make better work room. The scroll saw will be moved to where the band saw is and the band saw is a small one so I am going to make a mount so I can put it on the end of the shop smith frame when I need it and store it along the wall when not needed. If you have any suggestions or ideas please let me know. Please do not laugh, it is all this poor fireman has, LOL.... :crybaby2: :saw:

Roger, nothing wrong with that shop. It looks like you are using the space you have available very wisely. I bet you can crank out some pretty decent projects with the set-up you have. We want to see some project photos next.
