Stanley Rb10 Plane

Any Idea what this is? is it a good plane and what is it used for? Low angle smoothing, or rabbeting? Thanks for the help guys, God Bless.

I'm not sure about this model either, but I Googled the number and found this:

General purpose plane with a machined fine grey iron base.Razor sharp replaceable blades are quickly and easily changed.Spare blades are safely stored in the handle.Fully adjustable for depth of cut and alignment.Ideal for stock removal, smoothing and rebating wood, and with RB109 blade fitted, will plane plastic laminates

The description was on a for sale note somewhere in the UK.

When I did a search on the Stanley Tool web site, I didn't find any reference for this model number.

I pretty much in favor of ANY tool purchase (no I don't have a Wood Guy Disease problem thank you very much) but if this thing uses replaceable / disposable blades, make sure you can get the blades.

from the looks of it this one is a "vintage model" that has a solid blade. Im just trying to justify the purchase in my mind,,Hurry tell me all of the things i can use it for!!! :rotflm: . Thanks friend

Michael, I think what Monty's short response was eluding to is that you might be better served by buying a dedicated smoother and a dedicated shoulder plane. Hmmmmmm:eusa_thin ..........at least I think that is what he meant.:lol:

Actually, I meant that the design of those newer style planes like the one in the original post is worse than terrible. If you want a plane for rabbets, there are far better options.

My father had one of these donkeys years ago and it does have disposable blades. A great plane for the very occasional user, but no substitute for one with a real blade. In this case I agree wit the post that said to make sure the blade are still available, but to echo Monty...Nooooo
