Spoke shave

I have an older Number 15 spoke shave (don't know manufacturer) and the blade/iron is not straight (longer on one side). I don't know if it is suppose to be that way or not.

Anyway I would like to purchase a new one and wanted to know a site where I can.

I would recommend that you take a trip to Pittsboro one weekend when classes are in session at the Woodwrights School. Ed Lebetkin runs a store above the school specializing in hand tools. He will have multiple spokeshaves, and if you take that one with you, he can probably tell you if it can be fixed. Might need a new blade and he'll likely have one of those.

Find him here:

Another source of hand tools is Jim Bode's website: Jim seems to be fairly proud of his tools though.

And of course there is ebay if you have a good idea what to look for.

Thanks Mike, forgot about sources for new ones. Lie Nelson and Lee Valley would both be good sources for them. Stay away from the Groz brand that Woodcraft and some others sell. Highland hardware and Tools for working Wood might also carry them, but I haven't checked recently.

I use spokeshaves as much as I use bench planes and i got a chance to try out a Brian Boggs Lie-Nielsen shave and that was like an epiphany. I haven't used the Lee valley one but I'm quite good and knowledgeable with shaves and the LN was just amazing
