Splined Dovetails

Has anyone checked out this jig? It looks very interesting. I can see several possibilities with it like dovetails in plywood for large chests.

Not familiar with the product, but I've always thought splined dovetails were cool.

Below is a pic from stoneskipper (Cathy's husband, John) album that I've often admired and wanted to try.

You don't need a fancy jig to do dovetail spline (keys) in miter joints. They can be done the same way as regular miter keys with a simple jig to hold the box on it's corner. Then instead of a TS blade you use a RT with a DT bit. That same bit is then used to cut your key stock, for a perfect fit.

You're right Dave, I've used that method before. But the size of chests that I'm building these days would be very awkward on my small router table.

Well flip the jig over and use a router free hand on top of the chest. A couple guide strips should keep everything in line.
