I started this yesterday and wasn't sure if I'd be able to finish it. The spalting was so intense that I couldn't get a clean shear cut on the piece. I had punky spots everywhere and last night I soaked it good with sanding sealer before I came in for the night. This morning I started with 80 grit and sanded most of the holes out. I used some CA to harden up a few spots that were troublesome and then finished sanding up through 320. Another coat of sanding sealer, buffed out with fine scotchbrite white, then Shellawax friction polish, then finally some Ack's sanding paste and Ack's polishing compound. It shines nice and the grain and spalting really pops! This is a Christmas present for a good friend. I know he and his wife are going to flip! It finished out at 10 inch diameter and 3-1/2 inch high. Oh, and I cored this out so I have another small blank of this same material to make another small bowl! Enjoy!
