Our woodworking group makes toys for Toys for Tots Marine Corp drive and last year they told us that the older girls really like the small boxes that some of the guys made, I think most of them were bandsaw boxes, but not sure.
Earlier this year a club member had a pile of glued up lumber that was in a building he purchased many years ago. I got my hands on some of it and turned it into some keepsake boxes. A little tung oil and shellac brought out the color pretty nicely. It was mentioned it may would be a good idea to put something in them, that was all my wife needed to hear so she filled them up. Hopefully it will bring some young ladies a little happiness.

Awesome! Older kids so often seem to be set back a bit by the toys for the younger ones. Not intentionally but.... Boys are easy, give them a bouncy ball or a truck - both of which kinda lost their spark past a given yet young age. Give an older boy a football or a hammer. But young ladies to be....? I know a group that has given older girls a diary and some inexpensive jewelry - but where does a girl keep her possessions? Good stuff~
