So, after seeing this http://www.ncwoodworker.net/forums/woodworking/general.woodworking/3018-furniture.design.ideas.html I really liked some of the designs listed specifically this bedroom set.

I had been looking for ideas for a bedroom set for my daughter, so I decided to build a test piece. I started with a TV stand (I did not have much wood) but intend to build a complete set if it worked well.

Here are the results of the test...

I made the top from some very figgureed white oak (at least thats what I think it is) The bottom is popular with the feet being oak also. I did a couple of first's for me on this project. The case used MT joinery (which I had never been able to do to my satisfaction) and I used BLO for the top and legs. Overall I am satisfied but, I tend to like the look of laquer. I'm not sure if there is something I could topcoat the BLO with to help this out.

Obviously I have alot more to build so any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sure looks to me like it worked very well. Nice piece, I like the combination of painted and natural wood. I do think the top is WO also. Are there going to be any doors added?
You can and should top coat the BLO with something. BLO is not a good protective finish for wood, it adds nice color but provides little protection. You can use lacquer, poly, shellac or an oil/varnish blend to give a protective film coating. Just make sure to wait until the BLO has cured. Some say around a week is good enough, I generally wait until you no longer smell the BLO.
I can't wait to see the rest of the pieces you are going to make, keep us posted on your progress.

Nice job Mark. If the rest of the set turns out this nice, you and your daughter have something to be proud of.

That looks very beautiful and perfect for a girl's bedroom.

I like the wood top and feet. I think it adds some contrast to the white without overpowering. Did you turn the feet?

It looks like your painting/drying stand is JUST wide enough for the footprint!

The BLO does a great job of popping the grain! Of course you can topcoat after it's dry.

Great job!
